The initial idea I had for painting "Flaming Flamingo" was related to textile patterns, thinking of the country of origin of such an animal. I had recently completed the painted mural "Wall of Rugs" at Girard and Belmont Avenues, and, as well, am a weaver, so 'pattern thoughts' are no surprise. However, concerned about the war and other social justice and peace issues I decided to do a spontaneous painting of flames to set my self 'on fire'... for peace.

FYI: The word "flamingo" comes from the Latin word 'flame'. This fun and happy pink flamingo is smiling for you.
